Apr 13, 2018Pledges are still coming in and with the funds which the church has available otherwise, the final total available will be much more than the figure to date.Sunday, April 8 launched the actual canvassing drive with 22 teams of two men each, making the contacts. Of 149 calls made, there were 131 pledges received. This represents a participation of 88 per cent. Forty-two calls are still outstanding and represent 21 per cent of the contact list.The campaign will close on Sunday, April 15, with a dinner served in the church Fellowship Hall at 6:30 p.m. The 22 teams who have worked in two groups, one led by A.J. Norton and Don Doling, and the other by W.W. Naylor and Vern Specht, will partake of beans or chicken, decided by their winning or losing in their contest.“We are much pleased with the success of the campaign and we now can look forward to the building of a much-needed new church,” states D.M. Burkhiser, chairman of the Building Fund Campaign.“To one who heads up such a drive, the support and cooperation of the workers was very gratifying. Only members and friends of the church have been contacted. Anyone interested and desiring to help with the fund may do so thought any member of the Church,” he said.District Music Contest Here Attracts Over 2,200 EntriesMore than 2,200 high school students representing 37 schools plus more than 300 sponsors, are expected in Chadron this Thursday and Friday, April 12 and 13, for the annual District 6 Music Contest.Chadron State Teachers College is acting host to the contest for the second consecutive year. Most events will take place in Memorial Hall, while the remainder will be in the Chadron High School auditorium.The Chadron Chamber of Commerce this week is still seeking additional listings of private rooms to house from 150 to 200 students who will stay overnight Thursday.
